Powerful PMC, Graco, and IPM Transfer Pumps

When it comes to transfer pumps, SprayWorks wants to be your trusted supplier for fluid transfer pumps. Do you have a few questions regarding the differences between some of our transfer pumps and how they function? Check out some of our frequently asked questions below!

What is a fluid transfer pump?

Fluid displacement pumps, also known as transfer pumps, help to displace fluid from the bottom of a polyurethane drum and transfer the fluid to the hose.

The pressure created from the fluid transfer pump ultimately provides an even and consistent distribution of material as the material is transferred from the bottom of the barrel to the hose and eventually to the tip of your spray foam gun. It is at this point that it mixes with a second material, causing it to react.
Are Fluid Transfer Pumps the Same as Foam Pumps, Barrel Pumps, or Drum Pumps?
Yes. To the new polyurethane applicator, transfer pumps can be confusing. Fluid transfer pumps can have many names which include foam pump, barrel pump, drum pump, or fluid displacement pump, which sometimes leads to confusion.
When dealing with industrial materials and high/low pressure hoses, it is important to have industrial liquid transfer pumps, such as the ones made by PMC and IPM. Having the wrong pump can cause you to waste time and money by wasting material and getting an inconsistent application.
What are the differences between Gear Transfer Pumps and Piston  Transfer Pumps?
When working with gear pumps and piston pumps, it is important to know the differences between them and if you are selecting the correct liquid transfer pump. Check out the main differences between gear pumps and piston pumps below:
Gear Transfer Pumps: A gear pump is a type of positive displacement pump. Gear pumps move fluid repeatedly, enclosing a fixed volume using interlocking gears and transferring it mechanically using a cyclic pumping action. Gear pumps are not new and have been around for hundreds of years.
Piston Transfer Pumps: Piston pumps are positive-displacement pumps that use a piston and plunger to displace and pressurize fluids. Either single or double acting, piston pumps operate by using the force of the pumping mechanism to expand and contract an internal movable volume of liquid.
About Our Fluid Transfer Pump Manufacturers
When it comes to transfer pumps, we work closely with three different manufacturers. These manufactures are Polyurethane Machinery Corporation, International Pump Manufacturing, and Graco Inc. Learn more about each fluid transfer pump manufacturer below:
  • PMC (Polyurethane Machinery Corporation) – PMC has been manufacturing for more than a decade. Their pumps, proportioners, hoses, and guns are backed by a manufacturer’s warranty and are designed to outlast ingenuity. PMC spray foam and coatings fluid transfer pumps are designed for minimal maintenance and accurate pressure.
  • IPM (International Pump Manufacturing) – IPM is a leading air-operated piston pump manufacturer. Headquartered in Seattle and established in 1994, IPM is a group of professional engineers engaged in the development of products for industrial applications where durability, reliability and consistency of product delivery are essential.
  • Graco Inc. – Graco Inc. supplies technology and expertise for the management of fluids and coatings in both industrial and commercial applications. It designs, manufactures and markets systems and equipment to move, measure, control, dispense and spray fluid and powder materials. A recognized leader in its specialties, Minneapolis-based Graco serves customers around the world in the manufacturing, processing, construction and maintenance industries.
